Grit OCR Recap
The HKP Team had the opportunity to work with Grit OCR for their inaugural event last Saturday, 02.17, at East Walker Ranch in Santa Clarita. It was such a well put-together event by such a passionate group of people from the owners, Antonio and Malorie, to their team of volunteers. Despite being a new and young company, they exceeded all expectations in the actual course, post-race activities, set-up, and timing chips (to name a few).
Friday (the 16th) was set up day for all the vendors and sponsors. The team arrived at the site early so that they would miss the Los Angeles freeway traffic on a Friday during Lunar New Year and NBA All-Star weekend. Upon arrival, we met some of the Grit crew and they were hard at work preparing everything that needed to be set up for the next day. One of the volunteers showed us where to set up and we got to it. Everything ran smoothly and the HKP team was able to get back home early.
Saturday (the 17th) - Vendors and sponsors had to be at their booths early before the early morning racers who had to be there by 6am since the first wave time was at 8am. Wave times were coming in after every 30 minutes. The HKP Team had the booth set up in between Tu Me Beverage and Run Treadmill Studio, who by the way are both amazing companies as well (If you do not know who they are, now you do).
We were giving away one (1) week of FREE classes to our training program and stickers for anyone that came by the booth and signed up for our newsletter. We also brought out our sandbags for everyone to play with and attempt the HARDKOUR CHALLENGE. The fellas had to do as many HKburpees with the sandbag in one minute and the ladies had to do as many front squats with the sandbag in one minute. Top three male and female won prizes. Chris H. took it home with 24 HKburpees in 1 minute for the fellas and Daisy R. did 59 front squats with the HKsandbag in 1 minute! It was really exciting to see the racers, volunteers, spectators, other vendors, and even Antonio (Grit OCR) attempt the challenge in jeans!!
Not only did we sponsor one of the obstacles, we raced it too! Our HKsandbags were used as a HARDKOUR CARRY at the top of one of the hills for 400meters. The HKP race team competed and ended up taking 1st, 9th, 10th, and 11th in Age Group 20-29. HKelite Georgis took home 2nd place overall.
Overall, it was a fun event that had good vibes all around. We plan on working with Grit OCR in the future so watch out for both companies as we continue to grow.
Huge shout out to Grit OCR for letting the HKP team be a part of your first OCR event. Thank you to Antonio, Malorie and Terry for the support prior to race day. Everyone from the volunteers and spectators that gave us positive feedback on our performance, equipment and apparel, we appreciate all of you!
'Til next time!
