The Season of Sweaty Selfies

Greetings from your mud running, tights wearing, all time favorite OCR team, Hardkour Performance! We hope this finds you well and healthy.

With the COVID-19 quarantine in full swing, races, events, and team trainings have been put on hold until further notice...or so the general public thinks. As you know, Hardkour is a diverse team of individuals with goals ranging from getting physically healthy to dominating the Spartan age group podium; and let's be honest, there are several of us who give Coach Nukes additional gray hairs, for we get wild and weepy when missing a mear one day of training. That being said, for the sanity and fitness of all, training has not taken a back seat. Enter, the 3 mottos that HK athletes live by:

  1. OCR never stops

  2. Suffer fest never rests

  3. Donuts are life…*not approved by HK Nutrition*

With that being said, training hasn’t stopped, it’s just looked a little different from our typical routine, but as Coach Nukes says “this is all just another obstacle.” And so to keep us balanced and not simply doordashing donuts to our homes, we have put our brains together to create an unconventional training plan. Here's a look at all that has taken place the last 4 weeks...

Quarantine week 1: Week one of quarantine brought to Instagram a surge of everyone and their mom tagging their fittest friends (AKA Hardkour) in countless push up challenges. HKelite, one punch man, “Bitesized Bryan” decided not to participate in each individual tag, but to instead do 1,000 push ups in one go because, why not? And so 59 minutes and 43 seconds later, as his pecs were about to fall off, he finished.

Quarantine week 2: “Word of the Week” was born. Each day, Coach Nukes gave HK athletes one of the following words: balance, grip, kour, strength, complex, speed, and mobility, where each person got their creative juices flowing to interpret and video the personification of each word. From the dad bod goals, Georgis squatting his two kids to the silent killer, Gigi completing toes-to-bar between two tree vines, the submissions were far from boring. Closing the week out, we competed against each other via online Zoom conference in a bracketed burpee tournament.

Quarantine week 3: We are currently mid-madness with it only being Wednesday, for this week has been dubbed the week of WODs and sweaty selfies. Hyrox starting their “Home Series” virtual competition, of course, isn't enough for these filthy animals, so we started Monday with CHAD a crossfit workout equaling 1,000 step-ups on a 18”-20” box with 20lbs-35lbs of added weight (sandbag on shoulders or wearing a weighted vest).

Quarantine week 4: At this rate I can tell you one thing with great certainty: we are going to come out of this quarantine jacked and ready for a zombie apocalypse....that or we are just going to crush more podiums the rest of the year...we will let you vote on that.

‘Til next time.
